The Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) is responsible for the supervision of children and young people in the criminal justice system.
Youth Justice oversees services responding to children and young people in the criminal justice system, providing strategic advice and delivering strategic outcomes to address youth crime and reduce offending.
About the role
Reporting to the Manager, Operational Reform, this role is part of the team developing and delivering high priority reforms to Youth Justice operations, with a focus on initiatives to ensure the safety, stability and effectiveness of the Youth Justice custodial system.
Key priority projects that the role is responsible for include:
- Engaging Youth Justice staff, children and young people, their families, service delivery partners and key stakeholders on priority projects for the Youth Justice custodial system
- Developing new operational policies and frameworks for the Youth Justice custodial system
- Supporting a program of work to establish a new system configuration for Youth Justice custody, including the development of custodial operating models; and
- Contributing to the design, delivery and evaluation of a new Intensive Intervention Unit.
A key function of the role will involve interfacing with executive, operational and policy staff across the Youth Justice portfolio, and liaising with key DJCS executives and business partners to collaborate on and execute priorities.
This position presents a unique opportunity to experience a blend of policy, operations and high priority reform in a complex environment. Your work will meaningfully contribute to the delivery of the Youth Justice Strategic Plan and a safe and stable system for staff and young people. Justice policy experience and/or experience in custodial operations is desirable.
